Mews on Butler
Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh, PA
Status: Completed 2019
Building Type: Condominium
Area: 177,000 SF
The Mews on Butler, consisting of 68 new townhomes, is the largest single residential development in the Lawrenceville neighborhood to date. Located on a formerly vacant industrial site, the townhomes use a Mews arrangement where groups of 4-5 units face each other perpendicularly to Butler Street and Berlin Way, rather than the main streets. This layout creates small garden spaces in front of each unit, connected by pedestrian pathways.

Berlin Way, extending from 55th to 56th Streets, serves as the main access spine, designed to enhance both pedestrian and vehicular use. The townhomes are a mix of 3 and 4 stories, with the 4-story units featuring private rooftop patios and all units including rear decks that conceal two-car garages below.
The architectural design follows the neighborhood’s gable roof style but includes individualized rooflines and varied siding colors on the upper floors. A masonry veneer base anchors each group of townhomes and conceals the parking areas. Each unit also features a small garden with a fence design chosen by the buyer from options like masonry, Cor-Ten steel, or cypress wood, adding variety and delineating ownership within the Mews area.
